Conquer the Commander

I’ve noticed that on almost every video of the new Command and Conquer, people are complaining. I see why.

With EA’s latest fuck ups, you can no longer harvest tiberium, build bases nor do you have to wait 2 hours to create a unit. All the things that made C&C feel like C&C. As a huge fan, I’m disappointed with the latest release, and it’s ruined the franchise, as C&C has now been concluded under EA’s hand.

This is a relatively short post, but it’s with true regret.

Men of God and a Boy of Computers

Recently, the BBC announced that the “AATF”, a group of religious nuts out against child abuse from their priests, are being swamped by thousands of reports and allegations of the said abuse. They described the scene as a “tsunami”.

Such disrespect for disasters, these days…

On a happier note, I’ve recently managed to get my computer working again after breaking my bootloader, reinstalling Ubuntu 3 times and helplessly booting into GRUB’s command line.

I am now running on a single, native install of Ubuntu 9.10 and I do of course plan to upgrade to 10.04 in the coming month.

British Nipple Police

Update: Great news! Teachers are allowed to join as members or even dancers of the strip club!

I heard that police officers, prison workers and members of the clergy are banned from becoming members of one of the greatest strip-clubs in the world. Quite a shame if you ask me, I loved those guys.

The Boy with no Trousers

Update: Got an “OH SNAP!” from a friend after being informed that there is nobody assigned that task, it’s automated. That’s god damn even worse.

Read up today that Google Streetview had taken a disturbing picture of a very young boy after he had gone to the toilet and was being helped to dress again by his mother. I couldn’t quite bring myself to laugh after wondering why the photo was still published after being edited. What was the person assigned to blur faces and license plates doing? I’m appauled, and even heavily shocked at what has happened.

To make the situation even worse, I just read that, the actual task the person has assigned, was not carried out. The family car’s plates were clearly exposed, and the only thing actually blurred in the picture was the boy’s face.

What the fuck do Google pay those people for?

The 2 Year Old with Cancer

Every day, we hear about people getting cancer, living with it or dying from it, then we hear about the lucky ones who are fighting it, and paying to fight for it. Those who spend thousands and millions of pounds just to receive 1 single operation that saves but 1 person, but it doesn’t always work.

I wanted to write this because today I heard that a 2 year old girl, who had five hundred thousand pounds spent on a “pioneered operation” in the United States, has died after it failed to save her life from cancer. Now, I wondered to myself after hearing this, why is she so special? She had that much money given to her family from a television company, because they thought it could help, but why not give that money to the greater good of ALL cancer patients, rather than one single girl.

I may be being harsh, and disrespectful to her death, but why focus on her? She’s not that important compared to the MILLIONS of people dying from cancer every month, the THOUSANDS of people who die from it every week nor the HUNDREDS of people who are newly diagnosed… every… single… day. Why does she deserve such better care than the rest of those people, just because her family told the news of her story.

I’d label her mother as one thing, may the phrase be harsh and rude, but I think it true. Her mother is an attention whore. She wanted her baby to be so special and so recognised as the face of cancer that she’d write a dramatic story of her daughter’s life just to be noticed by the press. I know she really had cancer, but that’s not my point. There is no reason for that company to have paid so much attention to it. There is no reason that girl should have been famous, as it were, till today.

My point and my reason, is that cancer isn’t just affecting one person, it affects a lot more. Don’t focus your efforts to save one little girl, focus your efforts to removing it completely.
